(A) CONSTITUENCY MANAGERS
You will actively recruit and develop volunteers for the Grassroots Organisations (GROs) to promote racial harmony and social cohesion. You will also serve as an administrator and facilitator in the formation, development and consolidation of GROs at the constituency level. You will initiate and implement activities, programmes and services to meet the needs of the community at the Community Clubs (CCs) and Residents’ Committees (RCs). In addition, you will take on one or more functional roles in the Constituency Office such as CC course development and maintenance.

Requirements:

• General Degree, with good co-curricular activities record.
• Experience in customer-service supervision, volunteer management or event management.
• Possesses good interpersonal and communication skills and willing to work shifts and on weekends.
• Able to handle public enquiries and complaints and attend regular meetings and events of GROs

Application for Constituency Manager

I am interested to join People’s Association as a constituency manager. I am in my final year at National University of Singapore, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Science (Chemistry).

I would like to express my strong interest in providing service to the public in the community development sector. My passion for caring and sharing would allow me to provide people with a helping hand whenever need arises.  I would also like to be given the opportunity to interact with people from different walks of life and be able to help them in any way I can.

I have been part of non-profit organizations and completed projects to help the less fortunate. Through interacting with elderly from the various projects, I am equipped with the knowledge to understand their thinking and also the ability to communicate with them. My mentoring experience in Teck Ghee Youth Centre has also provided me a platform to better understand children who are less fortunate. From these experiences, I feel that I am a suitable candidate for the Constituency Manager as I can empathize with people who are in need of assistance.

In addition, I was part of the organizing committee for an Overseas Community Involvement Project to Cambodia. Through fund raising, planning as well as executing the plans in Cambodia, I acquired the skills to interact with non-Singaporeans. Being exposed to people from a different country, the experience will allow me to better communicate with foreign workers when they seek for assistance. This skill is definitely applicable towards the position of Constituency Manager due to the increasing migrants as well as foreign workers into the Singapore community.

A Constituency Manager will have to lead a team to initiate and implement activities to meet the needs of the community. I believe that I can excel in this as I have experience working in a team as well as leading teams during my education journey. During my junior college years, I oversaw my alma mater NPCC unit consisting of 80 cadets in their weekly training. I was also part of the organizing committee for a training camp for a few NPCC units held in Pulau Ubin. These activities allowed me to gain experience in leadership as well as working in a team.

With my interest and passion for helping and experience in team dynamics, I feel that I am suited to perform the duties of a Constituency Manager as well as leading my team of members towards improving the Singapore community. when silence does not mean consent...

Kat and Mary started out as strangers during a university camp. Kat even disliked Mary in the beginning as she hung out with a bunch of bimbo looking girls. However, due to the environment, they got to live together as neighbours in the same block. Through daily interactions, they began to get to know each other better and Kat found out that Mary is actually a studious and rather introverted girl. They soon became good friends and would share their thoughts and do everything together.

Few months into their friendship, Mary started telling Kat about the strained relationship between her and her boyfriend. Kat was there to provide emotional support for Mary through the difficult times though it ended with a break up. 

After the breakup, Mary became a changed person and started flirting with guys and led them on. This was unlike Mary in the past and when Kat tried to clarify things with Mary, she explained that she didn’t have interest in any of them and only wanted to be friends.

Kat, on the other hand cannot accept the way Mary made “friends” and started to avoid conversations with her. Gossips about Mary added on to their cold war situation. Soon, they ended up like how they started, strangers.

Are there any suggestions on how to salvage this friendship?
